The Central Fissure is found on the lateral surface of the cerebral hemispheres. This furrow on the surface of the cerebral cortex forms a partial boundary between the frontal and parietal lobes. Because the distinction between a fissure (deep furrow) and sulcus (shallow furrow) is arbitrary, some resources or texts you encounter will call this furrow the central sulcus. The placement of the central fissure/sulcus on the lateral surface of the brain is shown in Tutorial 21.
