The anterior region of the Thalamus is considered a portion of the limbic system. This region of the thalamus receives information from the mammillary bodies, hypothalamus, and hippocampus and then relays processed signals to the cingulate gyrus. It is probably involved in the detection of stimuli that are destined to elicit emotional responses.

Advanced

The anterior thalamus may work together with other limbic structures to modulate cooperative social behaviors including sexuality.
