The Fornix is a fiber tract that forms an arch deep within each cerebral hemisphere, encircling the upper or superior part of the thalamus. Portions of the fornix on each side connect the hippocampus with the septum, mammillary bodies, and anterior thalamus of each hemisphere. The hemispheric portions of the fornix unite with each other below the corpus callosum.

The fornix's namesake was an ancient Roman arch that became a famous gathering place for the "world's oldest professionals", prostitutes. This same arch gave us the term fornication.
