Multiple branches leave the cell body of a Multipolar Interneuron. An interneuron is designed to integrate activity and information within a single brain region. Because of the focal activity of this neuron, its diffuse branches cover a very small radius surrounding the cell body. In addition, the axon of an interneuron is very short like its dendrites. Some interneurons receive information back from the same adjacent neurons that they affect; this reciprocal communication underlies the rich integration conducted by interneurons. The majority of neurons are multipolar interneurons.
