8. A number of drugs reduce the activity of a neurotransmitter by stimulating the leakage of these substances from their storage vesicles. Once in the cytoplasm, they are degraded by enzymatic breakdown. Reserpine interferes with the uptake-storage mechanism of norepinephrine and serotonin. The depletion of norepinephrine is long-term, and the damage to storage vesicles is irreversible.
