3 - Lower level of the Medulla

The axons of the dorsolateral and ventromedial pathways bifurcate at the lower level of the medulla. The dorsolateral pathway decussates or crosses to the other side and continues downward toward the spinal cord. This component of the dorsolateral pathway is also known as the corticospinal tract. The ventromedial pathway continues downward toward the spinal cord in the medullary pyramids of the same side.
