The Ventral Posterior Nucleus lies on each side of the thalamus and receives a projection of gustatory information from the gustatory nuclei (solitary nuclei) located in the ipsilateral medulla. Each ventral posterior thalamic nucleus then projects to the ipsilateral primary and secondary gustatory cortical regions.
