The Terminal Buttons of a neuron are the small knobs at the end of an axon that release chemicals called neurotransmitters. The terminal buttons form the Presynaptic Neuron of the synapse. Another term used for the presynaptic terminal button is end bulb. Because the release of neurotransmitters expends large amounts of energy, mitochondria are usually plentiful in this region of the neuron.
