Marking Guidelines for the Course Project

The course project will be graded out of 100 marks, as indicated in the “Student Evaluation” section, and will contribute 55% to your final course grade. Please include a tutor-marked exercise form with your completed project when you submit it to your tutor for grading.

The style of presentation you choose is up to you, but the proposal must include the following components. You may wish to use this list as a checklist.

  Project Components Possible Mark
An introduction that outlines the research question. Argue why your line of research is important, and how it is relevant to current social issues.

An in-depth review of past research that is relevant to your topic. At least six primary references should be included.

A proposal for a new research study that will address your research question. Using what you learned in Part 1, outline your research method. It must be clear from your proposal why the method you chose is the best for your study.

Comments on anticipated problems, ethical issues, and outcomes.

Reference citations in the text and a reference section following the style presented in the Publication Manual of the American Psychological Association (APA Manual, 4th ed.).

Careful attention to organization, content, spelling, and grammar.
